Medterra’s Origins
Medterra was founded in 2017 by Jay Hartenbach. The company partnered with GenCanna, a Kentucky hemp farm. Medterra’s original aim was to bring transparency to the CBD wholesale market, however, they transitioned to direct-to-consumer products.
“We recognized that there were a lot of companies selling online that didn’t necessarily have the best customer service or the fair pricing that we thought should be in the marketplace,” Hartenbach tells Cannabis Business Times.
Product Offering
Medterra is not currently (as of November 2022) able to sell its full product range in Europe due to EU regulations. They are therefore pulling out of the EU for now however, fortunately, they continue to offer a limited product range in the UK.
Medterra’s core business exists in the USA where they are able to offer their full product range which includes (delicious) CBD gummies.
CBD Oils
CDB Isolate
This is CBD that’s been isolated from all other components of the hemp plant.
Ultra Broad Spectrum CBD
Broad Spectrum CBD products contain cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and other organic materials that naturally derive from the hemp plant. The THC is removed leaving much of the remaining compounds.
CBD + CBG
This product contains CBD Isolate as well as CBG Isolate. CBG (Cannabigerol) is widely considered the mother of all cannabinoids. Exciting!
CBD Capsules
Medterra has a range of CBD Capsules for those who prefer taking CBD in a more traditional “supplement” style.
The gel capsules (not suitable for vegans) are available in 25mg and 50mg.
The Good Morning capsules are liposomal which means they are “up to 17x more bioavailable”. These also contain caffeine, B6, B12, maca and turmeric. They’re vegan-friendly too!
CBD Topicals
The Relief + Recovery Roll-on (also available as a cream) does wonders for the body thanks to the rapid cooling of menthol and arnica. These are available with both 250mg and 750mg strength. We like the stronger stuff better!
We LOVE Medterra’s Manuka Honey Healing Cream containing Aloe, Jojoba and Sea Buckthorn.
Medterra also offers an Acne Facial Cream, a Psoriasis Relief Cream and an Eczema Relief Cream, all containing 100mg CBD.
Overall Impressions
Look and Feel
In its previous iteration as Synergy Extracts, Highkind’s look and feel could hardly be called accessible.
In fact, the company’s target market definitely seemed to be focused on CBD aficionados who weren’t put off by Highkind’s lack of finesse.
Fast-forward to now, and although the vape oil still comes in syringes, the packaging and branding present the products in an altogether more welcoming way, which will hopefully result in more people venturing in to try the company’s excellent products.
Flavour
The CBD + CBG oil and the Ultra Broad Spectrum both have a very light citrus flavour. We prefer the taste of natural terpenes, however, appreciate that for some customers, this is a pleasant taste. Either way, the taste is very light. The broad spectrum does also have a faint cannabis taste as would be expected from a broad spectrum product.
The isolate and capsules are both tasteless as is to be expected (CBD isolate has no taste). All of Medterra’s CBD is suspended in organic MCT Oil. This is fractionated coconut oil that is widely used with CBD products due to its long shelf life and high bioavailability.
The Rapid Recover cooling cream has a cooling menthol smell which is very refreshing. The Manuka Healing Cream smells like pure nature!
CBD Delivery
Each Medterra CBD oil comes in a tincture with a graduated dropper. This makes it very easy to dose the product. Each dropper has 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1ml denominations.
Delivery & Returns
Orders are shipped within 1-2 business days and are fulfilled from within the UK. In most cases, when an order is placed Monday-Friday before noon, it’ll be shipped on the same day.
All claims for damaged product(s) must be made within 72 hours of receiving the product.
If you are not satisfied with your products, you may request a refund of the full purchase price within 30 days of the product received date.

As of November 2022, Medterra’s products range from £18.99 RRP for the low-strength Rapid Recovery Cream to £116.99 for the 2,000mg CBD + CBG Oil.

CBD Isolate Oil
500mg = 5.2p/mg | 1,000mg = 4.5p/mg | 3,000mg = 3p/mg
This is not the cheapest brand to purchase CBD Isolate from. What you are paying for with Medterra is consistently high-quality CBD, a reputable brand with proven customer service, strict manufacturing processes and full transparency at its core.

The CBD + CBG Oil is fairly expensive, there’s no denying it. There are similar products out there from competitor brands that are cheaper.

Our overall analysis of Medterra’s pricing is that in general, their premium products have fair prices and offer good value for money.

Medterra’s CBD – Feel the Difference
Medterra extracts its CBD Isolate from industrial hemp rather than marijuana. This makes it federally legal in the US. The extraction technique used is advanced CO2 extraction. This is the most popular technique in the industry.
Special attention is paid to safety and consistency and all Medterra CBD products are certified organic. You can rest assured, there are no heavy metals, bacteria, microbes, mycotoxins or pesticides to be found as all Medterra products are U.S. Hemp Authority Certification program compliant.
Medterra’s hemp is all grown in sunny Kentucky. Rest assured, the CBD is finger-lickin’ good! The rich soil and long growing season provide excellent results and the hemp plants are grown without herbicides, following Kentucky regulations.
What Do Medterra’s Test Results Show?
Medterra test all its products through third-party laboratories. This means the risk of unwanted contaminants and pesticides is diminished. It also means there are accurate levels of CBD in their products.
What’s tested? Purity, concentration and composition. Also, THC levels have to be negligible to ensure the products are legal in the UK.

Each product contains a QR code that you can scan which will take you directly to the Certificates of Analysis. This should be the industry standard and we commend Medterra for going to the effort to take this approach.
