Medterra CBD Oil
In the US, Medterra has certainly made its mark on the CBD industry. The company has gathered a significant following of homegrown supporters, with tens of thousands of US customers visiting the website every month. Brand endorsements from professional sportsmen and women certainly hasn’t hurt. Medterra has now set its sites on making a similarly big splash in the UK and rest of Europe, not least with its four CBD Oils. However, the company is certainly not there yet and is still a relative newcomer to these markets. That’s why in this review we are going to be taking an in-depth look at these oils and find out what has made American customers come back time and time again, and whether you should consider this US brand for your CBD oil needs.
Medterra offers four different kinds of CBD oil tinctures at varying concentrations:
- CBD Oil Tincture
- CBD Immune Boost
- Broad Spectrum Cannabinoid Tincture
- CBD+CBG Tincture
These oils all have their pros and cons but do meet a range of requirements dependent on what you’re looking for of course.
NB: At the time of writing, only the CBD Oil Tincture is available for purchase in the UK and EU, although Medterra do hope to bring the other oils to these markets too.
CBD Oil Tincture
Far and away the most popular product from Medterra, this tincture has over 1,500 reviews on the Medterra website and is available in strengths of 500mg, 1,000mg and 3,000mg.
If we’re being honest, this level of popularity is somewhat bewildering – it’s not that the product is bad, far from it, it’s just that there’s not much to it other than CBD and the carrier MCT oil as this is a CBD isolate.
CBD isolate is solely CBD and doesn’t contain any of the other natural plant compounds – cannabinoids, terpenes and/or flavonoids – that are found in broad and full-spectrum CBD products.
For some people who are intent in taking CBD in exact dosages and have no desire to put any other compound, natural or otherwise, into their body, then going for a CBD isolate makes sense.
However, CBD isolate does not benefit from the entourage effect, which put simply is the widely accepted concept that naturally occurring plant compounds in cannabis work better together than they do on their own. In other words, they are greater than the sum of their parts.
Take a look at our explanation on the breakdown of full-spectrum, broad-spectrum or CBD isolate.
You can also take a look at Medterra’s CBD Oil lab report.
CBD Immune Boost Oil
The Immune Boost Oil incorporates the same CBD isolate as the standard CBD Oil Tincture but with the inclusion of immune-boosting ingredients including:
- Elderberry: contains antioxidants.
- Echinacea: used for centuries as treatment for coughs and colds.
- Vitamin C: helps to keep cells healthy.
- Ginger Root: reduces oxidative stress which is responsible for several damaging biological effects.
- Ashwagandha: an ancient medicinal herb that can boost brain function, lower blood sugar, and help fight anxiety and depression.
- Reishi Mushroom: medicinal mushrooms used widely in the fight against viral infection.
- Lemon Balm: contains rosmarinic acid that appears to have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.
You can also find the CBD Immune Boost lab report available on the Medterra website.
Broad Spectrum Cannabinoid Tincture
Unlike the previous two CBD Isolate based oils, the broad spectrum cannabinoid tincture is just that, a broad spectrum of cannabinoids, including: CBD, CBG, CBN, CBC and CBDV.
Medterra also says that the broad spectrum tincture also contains natural terpenes, although the broad spectrum lab report did not test for these aromatic plant compounds so we do not know which are present.
If you’re looking to reap the full benefits of the entourage effect, then you should choose this oil over the two isolate-based products discussed before.
This oil is available in concentrations of either 1,000mg or 2,000mg per 30ml bottle and is available in citrus, strawberry mint, or unflavoured varieties.
A unique CBD oil product, the CBD+CBG tincture exclusively combines two cannabinoids, CBD and CBG (cannabigerol).
CBG is a very interesting cannabinoid as it has been found to act on a specific set of bodily systems and is found in small amounts in most cannabis plants. Seeing it here in a 50/50 split is something that we haven’t found before.
You can learn more about CBG and its potential effects before deciding whether this product is the one for you. Also, you can take a look at the CBD+CBG Tincture lab report made available on the Medterra website to see this 50/50 split is actually what you find in the bottle.
What’s The Verdict?
Medterra uses US Kentucky-grown hemp and CO2 extraction methods to produce high-grade CBD used in its variety of oils. It is also a member of several prominent hemp associations, including the Hemp Pilot Research Program and the US Hemp Authority.
It’s clear that Medterra has done everything it can to appear trustworthy and to uphold the highest cultivation and manufacturing practises, which should put customers minds at ease when purchasing its products.
This is probably why they have had such success in the US.
When it comes to Medterra’s oil variety, it has to be said that its most popular isolate is fairly unremarkable, but if an isolate is what you’re looking for then you can’t really go wrong.
The other products are more interesting, and the CBD+CBG oil is a very unique product which many people will find is perfect for their needs.
Unfortunately, only the standard CBD oil tincture is available in the UK and Europe, but stay tuned and we’ll update you when this changes.
